3 de Olano Viñas Viejas

A dry, intense red wine from the northern, Basque part of Spain's Rioja region, the 3 de Olano is a 100% Tempranillo wine from unirrigated old vines planted at the top of a nearby hill. I visited the winery in the summer of 2024 and was struck by the wine's elegance. It wine undergoes a long fermentation before being aged in used French oak barrels for 12 months. The nose and mouth are full of cherry and raspberry with some fig, violet and woody notes. It has smooth tannins and a long finish. The name refers to the third generation of the family that owns the winery.
